PERRY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities struggled to get water and other supplies to isolated, flood-stricken areas across the U.S. Southeast in the wake of Hurricane Helene as the death toll from the storm rose to nearly 100.

FEMA administrator Deanne Criswell said the flooding in western North Carolina was "historic" and teams are conducting search and rescue operations.

Nearly 100 people have died across multiple states as Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction throughout the Southeast.
