The accused in the murder case of suspected underworld kingpin Mark Lifman are reportedly employed by a Cape Town security company.

Heavily armed police officers are guarding the corridors of the courthouse where the two men are set to appear.

It's believed that Lifman was shot dead outside the Garden Route Mall in George around midday on Sunday. According to witnesses, Lifman was walking towards his vehicle when he was confronted by a person who fired several shots at him. Lifman is on trial, along with a number of organised crime figures in the Western Cape.

Mark Lifman will be removed as Accused No 1 on the indictment in the murder of ‘Steroid King’ Brian Wainstein. While the case against the remaining accused will proceed, Lifman’s murder could cause delays and challenges for the prosecution.
