A new report indicates how the sales of Sony's recently released PlayStation 5 Pro compared to the PlayStation 4 Pro, which was launched in 2016.

The first sales figures for PS5 Pro in Japan are in (thanks, Gematsu ), and it's a very healthy start for the beefed-up console. In its launch week, the machine has sold 78,086 units, which is far and away the best-selling hardware for that period.

PS5 Pro is a powerful refresh of the base PS5 hardware. It's the best way to experience the PS5's large library of must-play games and the current pinnacle of console gaming. However, the eye-watering $699 price tag makes it a machine that will only appeal to the most dedicated gamers.

Arguably the PS5 Pro‘s biggest obstacle was its large price tag. Selling for $699.99 here in the U.S., that is a big ask for a mid generation upgrade. However, if Japan sales are any indication, it seems gamers see the value of the new and improved console.

In order to make the "slim" PS5 digital edition more accessible for the holidays, Sony is reducing its price by $70. According to a recent advertisement,
