At least one Knoxville Police Department officer shot a man Tuesday afternoon, according to the department. It happened in the 2600 block of Fairview Street just before 1:15 p.m., department officials said.

Alexandra Burns and Eric Smith are on paid leave, which is routine after a police shooting, according to a KPD news release. Both officers have been at the department since 2020 and were assigned to the city's East District.
