A Red Wing man fatally shot his partner ten times before engaging law enforcement in an hours-long standoff at his apartment Sunday, according to new criminal charges.

RED WING, Minn. — A Red Wing man is facing a felony murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed his girlfriend before a multi-hour standoff at the home. It happened Sunday night at a home on Putnam Avenue. That's where the criminal complaint says Darryl Dion Nixon called 911, asking for police.

The man’s mother told police she feared something like this would happen and that he has severe mental health problems, the criminal complaint read.

The suspect, 41-year-old Darryl Dion Nixon, is facing a charge of second degree murder with intent, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
