The National Bank of Hungary (NBH) will launch green financing programmes for households and the business sector next year, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Hungary resumed monetary easing as slowing inflation and interest-rate cuts by major global central banks widened policymakers’ room for maneuver.

After a pause in the easing cycle in August, the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) reduced the base rate by 25 basis points to 6.5% on September 24, in line with projections. The Monetary Council also reduced the overnight deposit rate by the same clip to 5.

Hungary's government would like to see faster economic growth and more favourable credit conditions, but it can "live" with the interest rate environment set by the central bank, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told parliament on Monday.

Policymakers have reduced borrowing costs after a pause in August, although the base rate in Hungary is still the joint highest figure in the EU. View on euronews
