The world's biggest coral — an organism made up of about a billion polyps — is about three times bigger than the previous record-holder and was discovered by chance during an expedition off the Solomon Islands.

This giant measures about 32 metres in length and 34 metres in width; its age is estimated at around 300 years. The coral is three times larger than the previous record-holder (known as Big Momma) and is the size of five tennis courts.
