Spirit Airlines Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection
The last major US airline to go through Chapter 11 restructuring was American Airlines, which filed for bankruptcy protection in November 2011. The carrier and its parent company, AMR Corporation, emerged from the process on December 9, 2013, as American Airlines merged with US Airways, creating a new holding company, American Airlines Group.
