The suspect in a fatal shooting at the Walmart in Monkey Junction made his first appearance in court Monday morning. Judge Richard Russell Davis ordered Dean Michael Newman, 35, held without bond. He is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to police reports, the suspect, who was allegedly attempting to shoplift, opened fire, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. The individual has since been apprehended, and authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
